Long Term Disability

The Long Term Disability (LTD) benefits are provided under WELS VEBA. LTD provides benefits to eligible workers who, due to sickness or injury, are unable to perform the duties for which they have been called or hired. In the event of a qualifying disability, the individual will receive a benefit that replaces up to 66.67% of pre-disability compensation (including base salary and housing and utilities allowances, if any).

LTD coverage is automatically provided to eligible workers who are enrolled in the WELS VEBA health plan as the primary subscriber.

Workers who are eligible but not enrolled for health benefits under WELS VEBA may purchase LTD coverage on a Voluntary basis.

The LTD benefit is fully insured and is administered by the Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada (“Sun Life”).
